2012 Spring Luncheon

The 32nd Annual Spring Luncheon was held on May 17th at the Loyola University Retreat and Ecology Campus. The theme "Once Upon a Time" celebrated children's literature. Tables showcased "The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Eloise, Where the Wild Things Are, Madeline, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Secret Garden, Peter Rabbit, The Nutcracker, Cranberry Thanksgiving, Jack and the Beanstalk, Here Comes Peter Cottontail" and "The Terrible Troll Cat." In keeping with the theme of children's books, WFAA Board members added whimsical costume touches to represent the tables. Board members enjoyed themselves as much as the guests!

Isabel Baker Schiffer, founder of The Book Vine for Children in McHenry, was the guest speaker. A past WFAA board member, Isabel is an advocate for meaningful children's literature. She was a magical speaker, sharing her love of good books with wisdom, wit and humor.

Scott Commings, the executive chef, prepared an exquisite meal for the guests. The silent auction and the 50/50 raffle were a big success as well. The winner of the raffle was overwhelmed when her name was drawn.

Guests were asked to bring children's books to donate. Over two hundred beautiful books for children of all ages were collected and donated to Turning Point.

The WFAA Board is grateful to all of our donors and supporters who helped make the day a lovely success.
